Alarm Monitoring using the Cell Alarm-SMS Communicator
The CellAlarm-SMS is an alarm communication device that allows any Contact ID compatible alarm panel to transmit alarm signals to a list of phone numbers over the Cellular GSM Network using the SMS data channel. It can be used as either the primary or secondary device for full dispatch alarm monitoring or it can be used on its own for DIY self monitoring. You connect your alarm panel to it via an RJ11 phone cable. The CellAlarm-SMS is ideal for medical monitoring applications where the use of callback is possible. It removes the risk of the corruption of handshakes, signal transmissions and kiss-off's which can occur when using a voice channel.
Cell Alarm-SMS
A standard analog alarm receiver like an Ademco or Surgard, cannot tell the difference between an alarm signal sent over a PSTN landline or one sent from a CellAlarm GSM. The role of the CellAlarm GSM is to connect any alarm panel or medical PERS unit to any alarm receiver over a GSM mobile phone network. Once the connection is made, communication between the alarm panel and alarm receiver is identical to what it would have been if the call had been made using a PSTN landline.
The CellAlarm-GSM device operates using 2G technology on GSM networks which may no longer be available in 5-7 years time. IP Alarms feel that is something you should be aware of so that you are able to make an educated decision on whether or not you would like to invest in this technology. Some of our customers feel that 5-7 years is a reasonable lifetime for a wireless technology and on that basis, we will continue to sell our GSM products.
